Representatives of Sliven took part in the International children’s festival in Novi Sad, Serbia and Monte Negro
Mrs. Petya Rumenova – a secretary of the Sliven municipality and Mrs. Rositsa Petrova – a directress of “Sava Dobroplodni” Regional Library – Sliven visited Serbia and Monte Negro from 5 to 8 June 2005. They were invited by Mr. Dushan Djurdjev – a director of „International centre for children’s literature” and the festival „Zmejevi dechje igre” /Novi Sad, Serbia and Monte Negro /. Mrs. Petya Rumenova and Mrs. Rositsa Petrova attended the events of the program of the festival and visited the Town library. They also met together with other guests of the festival from Norway, France, Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina on a special reception Mrs. Maya Gojkovich – a mayor of Novi Sad. Our delegation visited Sremski Karlovtsi on June 2005 – the town where the Karlovtsi peace treaty between Turkey and allied coalition of Austro-Hungary, France and Poland was signed in 1699. The famous Karlovtsi high school/ established in 1791/ is located in Sremski Karlovtsi where Sava Dobroplodni has been a teacher for 3 years. There they have been taken in by the head keeper of the Museum of Patriarchate / the Serbian orthodox church has been located there since 1713 / Mr. Branko Cholovich and they get to know the history of the Serbian orthodox church in 14 -19 century, the history of the establishment of the museum, they saw the collection of icons, the unique church plate, manuscripts and old-printed books dated from 14 century. They visited the Ecclesiastic academy /established in 1794/ and the museum in which the archive of the Karlovski high school and many documents, concerning the stay and the activity of Sava Dobroplodni in Serbia was deposited. According an agreement a big part of those documents will be exposed on an exhibition, dedicated to the anniversary of Sava Dobroplodni’s birth in December in Sliven. Our delegation visited Nish and Tsaribrod /Dimitrovgrad/ on June 8, 2005. Mrs. Petya Rumenova and Mrs. Rositsa Petrova have been taken in by Mr. Zvonko Karanovich - the chairman of the Municipal council of “Mediana” municipality /the largest municipality which included the population of the central part of the town - 130 000 citizens/ in Nish. Mr. Velimir Kostov – a director of “Brotherhood” Publishing house and municipal councillors also attended the meeting. Ideas for cultural exchange and economical cooperation were discussed. Our delegation visited Tsaribrod in the same day. They met there the mayor of the town, the director of the library and intellectuals. The library of the town got a donation of more than 100 books from Bulgarian writers and textbooks.
