The Directress of "Sava Dobroplodni" Regional Library - Dr. Rositsa Petrova-Vasileva took part in a scientific conference on "The Role of Libraries for the Cultural Development of the Settlements", which took place at the City Library in Szigetwar /Hungary/ and other events within the framework of the National Librarian Week program in Hungary (1-7 October 2018) organized by libraries in Baranya district. The conference was organized by the Association of Hungarian Librarians (LEC), the Association of Hungarian Librarians in the Baranya District and the South-Danube Regional Library and the Knowledge Center (Pecs). The conference is held in the year of the European cultural heritage, so Szigetvar, which has preserved a cultural heritage of many centuries, has been chosen as a venue. Szigetvar is the last Hungarian city conquered by the Turks in 1566 on their way to Vienna. The defense of the fortress was led by the Hungarian nobleman Milos Zrini, who for months retained the raids of Turkish army of 100,000 soldiers with only 3500 bold Hungarian soldiers. A day before the fall of the fortress, Sultan Suleiman Magnificent died in front of its walls, and his heart was buried in a tomb in the city. Today, the fortress has been restored as monuments of the nobleman ZrIni and Sultan Suleiman Magnificent were built. In Szigetvar Dr. Rositsa Petrova-Vasileva met with the mayor of the city, Dr. Peter Vas and Deputy Mayor Zoltan Varga, who will be the guest of the XXI edition of the National Children's Book Festival in May 2019. In the town of Pecs, R. Petrova visited the South-Danube Regional Library and the Center of Knowledge (Pecs) and branches of the library and took part in initiatives and events entitled "Our Heritage: Meeting of the Past and the Future" that gave a chance to children and adults to become better acquainted with the cultural heritage. The visit of R. Petrova to Pecs and her participation in library events from the National Library Week of Hungary organized in the Baranya area was at the invitation of the director of the Southern Danube Regional Library and Knowledge Center Tamas Misler. |
