Sliven representatives took part in the celebration of the opening of the Centre of Knowledge in city of Pécs / Hungary / within the frames of the program "City of Pécs - European Capital of Culture 2010"

 

 South Transdanubian Regional Library and a Knowledge Centre was officially opened on October 6 in the city of Pécs. The opening ceremony for the new library was also attend by Rosica Petrova-Vasileva - Directress of Sava Dobroplodni  Regional Library. She read a report and took part in the work of the international conference on topic: „Family and reading“ - part of a parallel program of festivities.

The New Regional Library and Knowledge Centre in the city of Pécs, in the words of professionals, is the most modern library building in the European Union. It meets all modern requirements for functionality and accessibility of the environment, conditions of service of readers, storage and security of funds, information capabilities, it impresses with its impressive size and unique architecture. It is located in an area of 13,000 square meters and it will serve to meet the information and documentary searches not only of the residents of the city and Baranya region, but also of the population of the entire South Transdanubian region. Library' conditions and modern equipment allows conducting of collective, educational, cultural and other activities.

Unique in this project is the merging of the activities of the different libraries in one center. In the new building operate the current regional and city libraries and the libraries of the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics and the Central Library of the University of Pécs. The total fund of Knowledge Centre numbers more than one million library items.

There are rhalls for free access, reading rooms, places for individual reading and learning on the first and third floor, and the fourth floor there are music and children's libraries. They are also organized two places for kids games. Collective functions performe the foyer, the bookstore, the spacious showroom and the cozy café-restaurant.There are also a cinema with 300 seats and 2 rooms for events and presentations.

This important project worths 20 million euros andit  was carried out with financial support of the European Regional Development Fund.

During her visit to Pécs Mrs. Rosica Petrova met the new administration of the united South Transdanubian Regional Library and Knowledge Centre. The longtime fruitful contacts between Library Sava Dobroplodni and the city and the regional libraries in the city of Pec were discussed on the meeting and were identified the parameters for future cooperation between Sliven Regional Library and the newly created united institution.
