XIX NATIONAL CHILDREN’S BOOK FESTIVAL

Second day

The second day of the XIX National Children's Book Festival, May 10th, was again full of interesting events.

At 9.00 am in "Sava Dobroplodni" regional library continued the round table with international participation on topic "Books, children and teenagers: reading between reason and emotions".

For the eleventh consecutive year the National plain-air for children's drawing was held. This year the theme of the plain-air was "I flew with a colorful kite and I saw a wonderful world". More than 250 talented young artists aged 7 to 15 years from all over the country took part in it. It was held from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm, as children drew in different places - the National Art School "Dimitar Dobrovich", "Sava Dobroplodni" Regional Library, III Primary school "Dr. Ivan Seliminski" and United Children's Complex - Sliven. Children's works were judged by a professional jury with chairman the famous artist Boris Stoilov and on May 11th, at 10.30 am, at a ceremony in "Stefan Kirov" State Theater, the awarded artists received their awards.

At 10:00 am, in "Sava Dobroploddni" Regional Library on a special press conference the winners of the National award "Konstantin Konstantinov" for contributions to children's publishing for 2016 in various categories were announced.

There were also several premieres of new books included in the program of the second day of the festival. They were held in the chamber hall of "Stefan Kirov" Drama theatre.

At 9.00 am in the Chamber Hall of Drama theatre "Stefan Kirov" started the premiere of Anita Tarasevich’s book „Little rooster”.

At 10.00 am started the premiere of Zdrava Kamenova’s book „The Sock that changed the world”.

At 11.00 am in the chamber hall of Drama "Stefan Kirov" the premiere of Vasil Sotirov’s book „There is no mistake, it is a joke” was held.

The premiere of the book "Rainbow Friend" of the young Russian writer Mikhail Samarskiy, which took place at 12:00 in the chamber hall of Drama Theatre "Stefan Kirov" attracted great interest. Due to the large number of people who wanted to attend the presentation, at 2:00 pm a second meeting was held at III Primary School “Dr.Ivan Seliminski”.

At 1.00 pm in the Chamber Hall of Drama "Stefan Kirov" "Damyan Yakov" publishing house presented the book "Albert" by the Danish writer Ole Lund Kierkegaard.

At 1:30 pm a workshop on reading /on the book "Pippi Long Stocking" by Astrid Lindgren/ on the methodology of the Italian actors Sabrina Carletti and Lorenzo Basotto, with moderator the writer Vesela Flambuwari, was performed at the chamber hall of “Stefan Kirov” Drama Theater Theater and it was attended by more than 60 librarians and teachers from Sliven and the country.

The program on the second day of the festival also offered many interesting events:
At 11.00 am on the open stage next to the book bazaar began the puppet show "The Clown and his kids" performed by the Theatre House "Atelier 313".

At 3:00 pm the patron of the festival, Mrs. Mariya Gabriel, Vice-Chair of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, visited “Sava Dobroplodni” Regional Library and met with the organizers of the event.

The traditional already carnival procession of kids dressed like their favorite characters from fairy tale attracted a great interest. It started at 4.00 pm and the participants manifested on "Tsar Osvoboditel" boulevard from the square in front of Dobri Zheliazkov’s monument to "Stefan Kirov" Drama Theatre. The cast of the theater group "Theatre Flower" joined the jolly parade and more than 350 students from different schools in Sliven and children guests of the festival. The carnival procession was led by majorettes at secondary school "Exarch Antim I" – the town of Kazanlak, the cheerleaders at XII elementary School "Elisaveta Bagryana" and Professional high school of economics in Sliven, „Fireter – theatre of fire and shadows" and Brass band "Krandila Junior" led by Angel Tichaliev. Special jury selected the winners of the prize for the most original costume.

At 4: 30 pm the carnival procession was welcomed in front of Sliven Municipality by patron of the festival, Mrs. Mariya Gabriel, members of the Organizing Committee of the festival and guests.

At 5.30 pm, on the big stage in the Drama theater "Stefan Kirov" began the gala concert performance featuring the special guest: the actor Dimitar Rachkov, the young actors Maria Dimitrova, Stoyan Velichkov, Tsveta Milenkova and Martin Yordanov from NSMPA "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" – Bourgas, ballet composition of NSMPA "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" - Bourgas, performers of Club for young pop and rock artists "Rhythm" at Children's Complex - Sliven, acrobatic ballet "Tiara" at the Military Club - Aitos and Vocal ensemble "Fortissimo" at NSMPA "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" - Bourgas. At the end of the show an official ceremony for rewarding the National Award "Konstantin Konstantinov" for contributions to children's publishing for 2017 in categories - lifetime achievement, author, illustrator and publishing house was held. The awards were handed in by the patron of the festival, Mrs. Mariya Gabriel- Vice-Chair of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, Mr. Stefan Radev - Mayor of Sliven Municipality and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Festival and Dr. Rositsa Petrova-Vasileva - director of "Sava Dobroplodni" Regional library- Sliven, organizer of the festival.

On the second day of the festival on the book bazaar the publishers “Fjut", "Janet 45", "Damyan Yakov", "Atea”, "PAN", "Enthusiast", "Kragozor", "Uniskorp", etc. offered the latest editions of books for children with big discounts too.
