Second day

 The second day of the XVIII National Children's Book Festival, May 10th, was again full of interesting events.

At 9.00 am in "Sava Dobroplodni" regional library continued the round table with international participation on topic "National children’s literatures in the global world".

For the tenth consecutive year the National plain-air for children's drawing was held. This year the theme of the plain-air was "Adventure through the Looking Glass". More than 250 talented young artists aged 7 to 15 years from all over the country took part in it. It was held from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm, as it was hosted by the National Art School "Dimitar Dobrovich", "Sava Dobroplodni" Regional Library, High school for foreign languages "Zaharii Stoyanov" and United Children's Complex - Sliven. Children's works were judged by a professional jury: Petar Stanimirov, Boris Stoilov and Hristo Totev.

At 10:00 am, in "Sava Dobroploddni" Regional Library on a special press conference, Louisiana Savkova - Chief Expert at the Ministry of Culture - Chairman of the national jury and Rositsa Petrova-Vasileva- director of "Sava Dobroplodni" Regional Library and organizer of the National children's book festival announced the winners of the National award "Konstantin Konstantinov" for contributions to children's publishing for 2016 in various categories. The award in category "Lifetime Achievement" was rewarded to Velichka Nastradinova. Award winner in category "Author" was the writer Rumen Ivanchev. The artist Sylvia Kaloyanova was the winner of the award in category "Illustrator". “Kragozor” publishing house received the award in category "Publishing house".

Velichka Nastradinova was born in 1936 in Plovdiv. She graduated from the State Conservatory in Sofia with a degree in "Violoncello". For many years she has taught chamber music and performed as a musician in Plovdiv Philharmonic.

She wrote 7 books for adults - historical novels, short stories, fiction and children's books: "Santa Pip" / 1969 /, "The angry grandfather Piperko" / 1973 /, "Miss Witch" / 1976 /, "The mischief of Dr. Belya" / 1980 /, "Closing America" ​​/ 1981 /, "Amazing Marta" /1989/ "Curly tales" / 1993 /, "About dragons and vampires, Marta, and posterity" / 1999 /, " 25 stories and a half "/ 2004 /, "33 and a half stories "/ 2009 / and " 24 brand new tales "/ 1912 /.

             Children's books by Velichka Nastradinova stand out with rich, but understandable artistic language and strong messages: they teach children kindness, love of the world around them and striving for spiritual development.

She has won many awards for her books, including "Graviton" - the first Bulgarian award for fiction. She is a winner also of the prize of UBW for best children's book for 2010 and "Plovdiv" award in 2012.

Rumen Ivanchev was born on June 10, 1948 in Sofia. He graduated from the Higher Technical School. He was an editor in chief of "Technical vanguard" newspaper. He worked at "Science and Technology for Youth" magazine, in "Septemvriiche" newspaper. He is a founder and an editor in chief of the first Bulgarian magazine for science fiction "FEP" / 1987-1990. He is a member of the Union of Bulgarian Journalists.

He is the author of books of poetry, satire and books for children: "Why? Why?" (1986), "A Rooster on the roof" (1987), "Perko and Petyo paint" (1989) and "Nine planets with running noses" (2014), "The Toy of the Winds" (2015).

His books have been translated into Russian, Italian and English.

He was awarded the National Literature Award "Chudomir 2015" for a humorous story and "Farabulina" award (1993) at the Carnival in Viareggio, Italy.

Since 1990 he lives and works in Rome, Italy.

Sylvia Kaloyanova was born in 1968 in the town of Gorna Oryahovitsa. She graduated from Veliko Tarnovo University "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" Faculty "Fine Arts", "Graphics".

She works in the field of printmaking and watercolor.
            She made her first steps in illustration for children in 2000 with illustrations for the book "Six unforgettable days" by "Gaberov" publishing and "Chenguri that sows fear" by Yordan Popov, published by "PAN-VT" publishing.

In the period 2000-2007 she worked as an illustrator of textbook for the didactic system "Molivko" for kindergartens and manuals and textbooks from 1 to 4 grade of "Slovo" Publishing. In the same period she illustrated books also for the publishers "Faber", "PIK" and "Nikolay Zvezdinov".

In the period 2008- 2012 she illustrated children's books for the publishers “Parnassus - Ruse" and "Kolhida".

            She also illustrated the first and second part of the trilogy "Small magicians of O - III" by Dilyana Kruseva, published by "Slovo" Publishing House - "Dondarion gloomy and the dark forest" /2013/ and "Prince Brave heart and Kingdom of Heaven" /2015/.

            "Kragozor" Publishing house was founded in 2001. The books, published by "Kragozor" publishing focused at a broad audience, with special attention to adolescents.
The publishing house is the initiator and organizer of a number of campaigns aimed at young people, and events promoting reading.

"Kragozor" Publishing house publishes books in four main areas:
         textbooks for general education schools and universities;

         children's books and novels for teenagers;

         contemporary novels; chick lit;

         Science literature.

 Significant place in the program of the publishing house takes teen book series by Julia Spiridonova - Yulka: the novels "Tina and a half" (2009), "Countess Batory" (2010) and "Max" (2012) and the series of fantasy novels for children - first two parts of the trilogy "Dreamland" - "Favorite popatecho" (2007) and "Royal blood" (2011). In 2015 they issued two books for children by Julka: "What magic lies in the snow" and "Be my friend". Just a month ago was also published her novel for teenagers "Kronos".

There were also several premieres of new books included in the program of the second day of the festival. They were held in the chamber hall of "Stefan Kirov" Drama theatre.

At 9.00 am in the Chamber Hall of Drama theatre "Stefan Kirov" started the premiere of "7 stories with green wings, legs and antennas" by Nelly Margaritova. The presentation was also attended by the young actors from the children's fairy theater troupe at "Sava Dobroplodni" Regional library.

At 10.00 am started the premiere of "Mina and the magic of prophecy" by Vesela Flamburari with the special participation of students from X and XI grades of High school for humanitarian sciences "Damyan Damyanov" - Sliven.

At 11.00 am in the chamber hall of Drama "Stefan Kirov" the premiere of the book "Question marks" by Petya Kokudeva was held.

  The presentation of the book "Be my friend" by Julia Spiridonova-Julka, which took place from 12: 00 in the chamber hall of Drama theatre "Stefan Kirov" was expected with a great interest.

At 1.00 pm in the Chamber Hall of Drama "Stefan Kirov" "Damyan Yakov" publishing house presented the book "Otto is a rhino" by the Danish writer Ole Lund Kierkegaard. In the presentation also took part the translator of the book Rositsa Tsvetanova.

 The program on the second day of the festival also offered many interesting events:
 At 11.00 am on the open stage next to the book bazaar began the puppet show "Circus" performed by the Theatre House "People and puppets".

At 4.00 pm the Minister of Agriculture and Food - Desislava Tanev and Deputy Minister of Culture - Boni Petrunova visited "Sava Dobroplodni" regional library. Ms. Petrunova handed to the director of the library Rositsa Petrova-Vasileva, a personal donation of books from the Minister of Culture Vezhdi Rashidov.

The traditional already carnival procession of kids dressed like their favorite characters from fairy tale attracted a great interest. It started at 4.00 pm and the participants manifested on "Tsar Osvoboditel" boulevard from the square in front of Dobri Zheliazkov’s monument to "Stefan Kirov" Drama Theatre. The cast of the theater group "Theatre Flower" joined the jolly parade and more than 350 students from different schools in Sliven and children guests of the festival. The carnival procession was led by majorettes at secondary school "Exarch Antim I" – the town of Kazanlak, the cheerleaders at XII elementary School "Elisaveta Bagryana", cheerleaders at XI High School "Konstantin Konstantinov" and Brass band "Krandila Junior" led by Angel Tichaliev. Special jury selected the winners of the prize for the most original costume.

At 4: 30 pm the carnival procession was welcomed in front of Sliven Municipality by patron of the festival, Minister Desislava Taneva, Mrs. Bonnie Petrunova - Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture, the Mayor of Sliven municipality- Stefan Radev, Rositsa Petrova-Vasileva - director of "Sava Dobroplodni" regional library and organizer of the festival, members of the Organizing Committee of the festival and guests.

At 5.30 pm, on the big stage in the Drama theater "Stefan Kirov" began the gala concert performance featuring the special guests: the actors Nencho Balabanov and Militsa Gladnishka, small actors Tsveta Milenkova and Stoyan Velichkov from Children's Theatre Studio "Fairytale Theatre" - Burgas, ballet composition of NSMPA "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" - Bourgas, performers of the vocal ensemble "Morski pesachinki" - Burgas, Club for young pop and rock artists "Rhythm" at Children's Complex - Sliven, acrobatic ballet "Tiara" at the Military Club - Aitos and Vocal ensemble "Fortissimo" at NSMPA "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" - Bourgas. At the end of the show an official ceremony for rewarding the National Award "Konstantin Konstantinov" for contributions to children's publishing for 2016 in categories - Lifetime Achievement, author, illustrator and publishing house was held. The awards were handed in by the patron of the festival, Ms. Desislava Taneva, Mrs. Boni Petrunova - Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Culture, Mr. Stefan Radev - Mayor of Sliven Municipality and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Festival and Dr. Rositsa Petrova-Vasileva - director of "Sava Dobroplodni" Regional library- Sliven, organizer of the festival.

On the second day of the festival on the book bazaar the publishers “Fjut", "Janet 45", "Damyan Yakov", "Atea”, "PAN", "BG book", "Kragozor", "Uniskorp", etc. offered the latest editions of books for children with big discounts too.
