Second day

 The second day of the XIVth National Children's Book Festival, the 10th of May, was also full of interesting events.

The round table with international participation: “Taboos in children’s literature” continued in “Sava Dobroplodni” regional library from 9.00 a.m.

The play “An Apple-dragon’s tale” was performed by Yambol Puppet theatre in 9.30 a.m. in the chamber hall of "Stefan Kirov” drama theatre. At the end of the performance children met Rumen Nikolov – the author of the text of the play.

For the next year in a row the National Children's plain air of painting was held. The topic of the plain air this year was: “A Visit to the Land Where Wishes Come True”. More than 250 talented young artists aged from 7 to 14 years from all over the country took part in it. The plain air was held from 10.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m., and it was hosted by the National Art School “Dimitar Dobrovich”, “Sava Dobroplodni” regional library, III secondary school “Dr. Ivan Seliminski” and Children's united complex - Sliven. The paintings of children were selected by a professional jury chaired by the artist Hristo Totev and on May 11th, Friday, from 10.30 a.m. the artists-winners received their awards at an official ceremony in “Stefan Kirov” drama theatre.

A concert and a fun game with many rewards "Tell me your favorite poem!" gathered together many children on the stage in the open air on the main street next to the Old elm tree in 11.00 a.m. The best young readers who have the courage to perform their favorite poem on stage were given souvenirs from the festival, books and magazines. Next to the book bazaar, authors gave autographs to their most ardent fans. Children from vocal group “Karavela” from the town of Shivachevo entertained the audience singing.

From 11.00 a.m. in the chamber hall of “Stefan Kirov” drama theatre was held the premiere of Marko Ganchev’s book “Who and how roars”.

In 11:30 a.m. in “Dimitar Dobrovich” Art Gallery - Sliven an exhibition „Petar Stanimirov - illustrations” was opened.

The premiere of Aleksandar Sekulov’s book „The Island” attracted great interest. It was held in the chamber hall of “Stefan Kirov” drama theatre from 12.00 a.m., with the special participation of students from “Zaharii Stoyanov” Foreign Languages School and II elementary school “Hristo Botev” - Sliven.

The premiere of Bozhana Apostolova’s book “Little Bozhana on the night of miracles” was held in 1:30 p.m. in the chamber hall of “Stefan Kirov” drama theatre.

The carnival procession started in 4.30 p.m. and passed along “Tsar Osvoboditel” boulevard. Children who took part in the carnival were dressed as their favorite characters from books and movies. More than 300 pupils from various schools in Sliven and also children who were guests of the festival took part in the colorful parade. The carnival was led by the cheerleaders at “Prosveta” community center from the town of Pomorie, the cheerleaders “Seliminski Silhouettes” from III elementary school “Dr. Ivan Seliminski”, Theatre „Flower” and “Krandila Junior” brass band led by Angel Tichaliev. A special jury selected the winners of the awards for the most original costumes.

 

In 5.30 p.m. on the big stage of “Stefan Kirov” drama theatre started a gala concert with the special participation of: the actors Ruslan Maynov and Antoaneta Dobreva-Neti, the dancers from Dance Sport Club “Sliven”, the Children's Ballet Theatre “Kapka” - Burgas, the Ballet dancers from “Avangard” club at the Military Club - Sliven and the singers from the vocal ensemble at the children's choir “Milka Stoeva” - Burgas, the guitar ensemble and quartet “Classic” at the National School of Music and performing arts “Professor Pancho Vladigerov” - Burgas, the Children's Theatre Studio “Fairy theatre” - Burgas. At the end of the show was held also the official ceremony for handing in the National Award “Konstantin Konstantinov” for a contribution to the children's book publishing for 2012. The winners of the National award this year were: in category “Lifelong Achievements” - Lilyana Stefanova, in category “Author” - Angelina Zhekova, and in category “Illustrator” - Peter Stanimirov.

The ceremony ended with one more prize – “The Little Prince”- awarded by the Association of the friends of book “The Little Prince” from the city of Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The prize was awarded to Mrs. Rositsa Petrova - Directress of “Sava Dobroplodni” regional library, for her contribution to the development of children's literature and intercultural cooperation on the Balkans and it was handed in by the writer Šimo Ešić.
