A documentary exhibition “Darwin Now” in “Sava Dobroplodni” regional library

 

A documentary exhibition “Darwin Now” was opened on 5.03. in 4.00 p.m. in the central lobby of “Sava Dobroplodni” regional library. It was organized by the British Council in partnership with the Natural History Museum of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and was dedicated to the celebration of the 200 year anniversary of Darwin’s birth and 150 years anniversary of the publication of his work “On the Origin of Species”, which dates the world celebrated in 2009. The exhibition reflects Darwin's live, his groundbreaking theory and his ideas and explains how they continue to influence modern researches in the field of biology and medicine. It consists of 16 panels, which are presented in various aspects of the life and writings of the eminent scientist. They are devoted to his journey on the "Beagle" ship, his book, his theory of evolution, the views of his contemporaries for "Origin of Species", the link science - religion and his scientific correspondence and contain also text, photographs and sketches. The exhibition offers visitors the chance to share their own ideas about Darwin and evolution. One of the interesting exhibits is an evolutionary tree on which hang the views of visitors. The design of the exhibition was made by the British Arch Design Studio, the texts, accompanying the exhibition were written by John Tarnene, a British journalist and writer who writes on scientific topics. Educational materials for different ages were at visitors’ disposal. The exhibition is interesting both for adults and for students. It will be exhibited in the regional library to the end of March.
