Valuable donation to "Sava Dobroplodni" Regional Library
Two editions of an outstanding historic and aesthetic value were donated by GLOBUL - Bulgaria to the funds of "Sava Dobroplodni" Regional Library. The first of these is the facsimile edition of the famous Chronicle of Manassas, a joint publication of the Greek publishing house "Militos" and the Vatican Apostolic Library, published with the financial support of GLOBUL. "The Chronicle" by Constantine Manasses, written in verse, in Greek, in the 12th century, was the first historical text, translated into Slavonic and today it is an important source for the history of the Bulgarian people. Manasses’s work covers human history from the creation of the world according to the Bible to the reign of Byzantine Emperor Nikephoros Botaneiates. The chronicles described the emergence of the Bulgarian people on the Balkans, the Christianization of Bulgaria, the development of Bulgaria as a powerful country and its struggle to expand in areas that belonged to the Byzantine Empire. The manuscript, which has survived the time, locates in the Vatican Library. It is unique because it is the only known copy in the whole Greek and Slavonic manuscript tradition decorated with miniatures that depict important military and public events. The copy was made by order of Tsar Ivan Alexander in the period 1345-1350 and it is a national treasure of the Bulgarian people. The edition is accompanied by a separate collection of research works and background information on the Chronicle made by Professor Aksiniya Djurova – a director of the Centre for Slavo-Byzantine Studies "Prof. Ivan Duychev" and Senior Researcher Vasya Velinova in Bulgarian and English. The donation includes also the book "120 Years of Bulgarian art / unions, companies and groups 1892-2012./" published by Foundation "Keeping the arts in Bulgaria" and the Union of Bulgarian Artists. The book is unique in its nature as it is a comprehensive overview of Bulgarian art and its development made for the first time. The luxury edition contains 700 reproductions, detailed reference section and synthesized texts, which chronologically present the most important artistic events since 1892 hitherto. GLOBUL's support for the issuance of the two books is part of a long-term strategy of the company to implement projects for the preservation and development of Bulgarian culture. The editions will be available to readers in the specialized library reading rooms soon. |
