The Results of the “EU through Children’s Eyes” Competition were reported

            The results of drawing competition and of literature competition on topic “EU through Children’s eyes” were reported on May 31st, 2005 in “Sava Dobroplodni” Regional Library. 311 children, divided into two groups– 10-13 years old and 14-16-years old, took part in the competitions. 230 children participated with drawings and 81 children wrote especially for the occasion essays or fairy-tales. All of them were students from towns-participants in the project of Ministry of Culture and Tourism and “Sava Dobroplodni” Regional Library – Sliven on the Bulgarian Government Communication strategy for Bulgarian uniting to the European Union. The project was realized in partnership with the Regional library in the town of Yambol and the community centers’ libraries in the towns of Nova Zagora, Tvarditsa and Pomorie.

            Vergjul Ibish /12-year-old/ from the town of Nova Zagora won the first prize for drawing in the first group, Kalin Georgiev /14 years old/ from the town of Nova Zagora won the second prize and Ivan Kashlakov – 12-year-old from the town of Sliven won the third prize. In the second group first and second prize were not awarded and Veljo Velev /14-year-old/ from the town of Nova Zagora won the third prize. Jenia Georgieva from the town of Tvarditza won the first prize in the literature competition in younger, Georgi Ivanov / 13 years old/ from the town of Tvarditsa won the second prize, Diana Kalajdjieva /13 years old/ from the town of Yambol won the third prize. Maya Kurteva won the special prize for the youngest participant 1st grade student in “Ivan Vazov” Secondary school in the town of Pomorie.

            Stanislav Petrov /18 years old/ student in the “Dobri Chintulov” High School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Anita Jorgova /14 years old/ from Nova Zagora and Marieta Dobreva /14-year-old/ from Tvarditsa won the second group prizes. Six encouragements were rewarded too. Children, winners in the competitions got a lot of object prizes provided by the “EU through children’s eyes” project and special prizes by the British embassy in Sofia – books, album, pupils’ appliances, drawing accessories and souvenirs with the emblem of EU.

            Rositsa Petrova-Vasileva - director of the Regional library, thanked warmly to all participants in the competitions and expressed hope that children would participate actively in next activities on the project.

            The project started in Sliven on March 21st, 2005 on a work meeting in the Club of the cultural figures. Interurban and town quizzes were carried out – competitions, literature competition and drawing competition, exhibitions that aimed making the participants know new terms and adding new knowledge to their lexis, working up their own opinion about some of the important matters of uniting Bulgaria to the EU, making informal contacts. On-line discussion and closing seminar on the project were held.
