THE BOOK "THE MAYOR BOZHIDAR ZDRAVKOV" WAS PRESENTED

IN "SAVA DOBROPLODNI" REGIONAL LIBRARY- SLIVEN

On February 28, at 17:00 pm, on the second Friday literary reading of the year "Sava Dobroplodni" Regional Library and "Lettera" Publishing House presented the book "The Mayor Bozhidar Zdravkov". The publication presents an autobiography and personal documents and photos of Bozhidar Zdravkov - a mayor of the city of Plovdiv between April 9, 1932 - March 14, 1935 and September 8, 1936 - November 14, 1939, and publications about his work, published in the six Plovdiv newspapers issued at that time. Compilers of the book are Prof. Dr. Radka Koleva - famous bibliographer and writer, professor at The University of Veliko Tarnovo "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" and UNIBIT- Sofia and Anastasia Toleva. The idea of writing the book came from Plovdiv Regional Committee of the National Endowment Fund "13 Centuries Bulgaria" and it was implemented by in the program "Memory of Plovdiv".

Bozhidar Zdravkov was not born in the town under the hills-Plovdiv, but his work as a mayor of the city, as a respected public figure and politician, put him in the forefront of the most famous and deserving citizens of Plovdiv. The management of Mayor B. Zdravkov today is part of the outlook of the city - a long list of buildings for the city built in his two mayoral terms. He laid the foundation of a large-scale development of the city and construction of water and sanitation, initiated and implemented the construction of the Municipal House, the Courthouse, the bridge "Landos" over Maritsa river, municipal day-care homes, nursing home, home for beggars, houses for homeless people, maternity hospital, tuberculosis hospital, neighborhood bathrooms, racecourse, new market halls, exhibition pavilions of the International Fair, etc. His contribution to the reconstruction of existing schools and construction of new schools, design and construction of a number of emblematic monuments of the city was important.

For citizens of Sliven the book about Bozhidar Zdravkov is interesting also with the fact that in the period 1910 - 1912, with few interruptions, he lived and worked as a judge in our town and in his own words, his stay in Sliven had "fatal consequences" for him. Here he also met his wife, Stella Kuteva – a daughter of the famous Sliven physician Dr. Ilia Kutev; here was their wedding on August 1, 1912 too.

Nadia Furnadzhieva – a Manager of "Lettera" Publishing House, Prof. Dr. Radka Koleva-a compiler of the book and Bozhidar Zdravkov – a grandson of the Mayor Bozhidar Zdravkov attended the book premiere.
