An Exciting Meeting with Erich Kästner’s Works in the Regional Library

The books „Lottie and Lisa”, „Anna Louise and Anton”, „The Flying Classroom”, „When I Was a Little Boy” are favourite for kids all over the world. His author is the famous German writer Erich Kästner. He was born on February 23, 1899 and this year we celebrate 110 years from his birth. A meeting with children from the second form from III elementary school “Dr. Ivan Seliminski” was held in “Sava Dobroplodni” Regional library-Sliven on this occasion. Interesting facts from writer’s life and works for children were introduced to the pupils. Advertising brochures containing curios information about the most famous works of Erich Kästner, illustrated with lovely covers of his books for children, were given to all little guests. Children read favourite extracts from Kästners books and gave to the Children’s department of the library illustrations of Kästners works painted by them.

It was not only interesting, but also very useful for the second form pupils to find out in Erich Kästners works happenings little talismans, images of boys and girlslittle talismans, in order to transfer this amazing experience from their childhood in their mature age and let it remember them about good and beautiful in man. If someone of you, grown up children, missed to make it, let read Erich Kästners autobiographical novel „When I Was a Little Boy”. Entering writers child world, you will surely get to like the twins Lottie and Lisa /„Lottie and Lisa”/, you will wish to be among the  mischievous kids of „The Flying Classroom” or to live through the shiver of finding the thief, which for Emil from „Emil and the Detectives” is a great adventure. The artistic talent of Anna Louise, Antons bravery will win your heart and will not let you separate from the characters of the novel „Anna Louise and Anton”.

As Erich Kästner himself shared, childhood jolly or sad, is always unforgettable. So listen to writer’s advice and believe his wise words: „Don’t forget the unforgettable!”
