OPEN DOORS DAY IN "SAVA DOBROPLODNI"
REGIONAL LIBRARY
ON THE OCCASION OF THE INTERNATIONAL
WORLD BOOK AND COPYRIGHT DAY
An
Open Doors Day dedicated to the International World Book and Copyright Day
was held in "Sava Dobroplodni" Regional Library on April 22, 2016.
World Book Day is a yearly event on April
23rd, organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO), to promote reading, publishing and copyright. It has
been celebrated since 1995.
April 23rd is a symbolic date for
world literature. On this date in 1616
Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega died. This is the date
of birth or death of other prominent authors such as Maurice Druon, Halldór
Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov,
Josep Pla and Manuel Vallejo. This makes it a natural choice of the General
Conference of UNESCO in this day around the world to pay
tribute to books and authors, encouraging
everyone, and in particular
young people, to discover the pleasure of reading and to respect the
contribution of those
who contribute to the socio-cultural progress of mankind.
The
idea for the celebration originated in Catalonia where on 23 April, St.
George's Day, traditionally books were exchanged.
At the Open Doors Day various initiatives
were organized at the library: in the foreign language center were
celebrated 452 years since the birth of Shakespeare with the presentation of
a short biographical film about the genius writer /in English/ for students
from the high school for foreign languages
"Zaharii Stoyanov", in the Children's Department to students of V Secondary
school "P. K.Yavorov"
was presented the history of books from antiquity to the present day; in the
library’s departments the new information services of the library,
updated information about newly literature to support the learning process
were introduced to visitors. For everyone excursions in the library were
organized.
On this day, information services and daily
cards for all departments of the library were tax free. |
