20th OF SEPTEMBER - OPEN DOORS DAY IN "SAVA DOBROPLODNI" REGIONAL LIBRARY– SLIVEN
Traditionally, every year at the beginning of the school year "Sava Dobroplodni" Regional Library - Sliven organizes Open Doors Day. The program included various initiatives to promote the capacity of the library to support the process of education and self-education of students. During the Open Doors Day trips in the library were organized, demonstrations of using online full-text electronic databases through the new platform of the Electronic catalog of the library were held, new books and materials to support learning in different school subjects for different grades were also presented. Focus in the program was the premiere of the latest children's book of the famous Bulgarian writer Kina Kadreva - "Sea Tales", published this year. The premiere of the book was a fabulous gift for all little fans of fairy tales and unexpected adventures on the occasion of the beginning of the school year. It was attended by more than 90 students from the second grades of IIIrd elementary school "Dr. Ivan Seliminski" and children from the preparatory group of kindergarten "Mak". By the presentation of the book the upcoming 85th anniversary of the writer was celebrated. Kina Kadreva was born on September 27th, 1931 in the town of Bourgas. She graduated from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". She wrote 16 books for children, children's television programs, plays and movies for children and adolescents. A system for development of creative thinking and teaching literature based on her fairy tales was created in Hamburg and introduced in schools in Germany. In 1994 Kina Kadreva was awarded the prestigious Andersen diploma awarded to her by the International Council at UNESCO for children's books and her name is entered in the Honor list of the best children's writers of children's and youth books on the planet. She is a winner of the National Award "Konstantin Konstantinov" for lifetime achievement in publishing for children (2011), she was awarded the “Golden Age” award -for contribution to Bulgarian culture by the Ministry of Culture and honorary prize of the Union of Bulgarian Writers for lifetime achievement. Another focus in the program of the Open Doors Day, aimed at English learning students, was the celebrating of the 150th anniversary of the English writer H. G. Wells / 1866-1946 /, one of the most popular authors of science fiction novels. A presentation entitled: "H.G. Wells - the father of science fiction" was presented, and students had the chance to watch the movie "War of the Worlds". H.G. Wells was born on September 21, 1866 in Bromley, Kent, UK. He graduated biology at the University of London in 1890. He started writing after graduating from university. Along with Jules Verne and Hugo Gernsback he is defined as the "father of science fiction". His novels "The Time Machine" / 1895 /, "War of the Worlds" / 1898 /, "Invisible Man" / 1897 / and "The Island of Dr. Moreau" guaranteeing him a place in world literature. Besides science fiction, he wrote novels and contemporary, historical, political and social commentary and even textbooks for war games. In 1934 he was elected a president of PEN International. He died in 1946. On the Open Doors Day students from Humanitarian High School "Damyan Damyanov" visited the literary study "Atanas Slavov" and got acquainted with the life and work of the writer. A documentary movie created on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the writer was presented. To present to visitors the new information services of the library and updated information about new literature to support the learning process, lectures and presentations in different departments of the library were organized. Traditionally on this day information services and daily cards for all service departments of the library were free. |
