Ivan Garvalov’s book

“UNO – a centre of possible missions” was presented

The ambassador Ivan Garvalov was a guest of Sliven on May 19, 2006, during the days of the cultural holidays “Sliven fires”. “Sava Dobroplodni” Regional Llibrary – Sliven organized a discussion of his book “UNO – a centre of possible missions” in 17.30 in the hall of Sliven municipality.

Ivan Garvalov was born in Sliven. Dobri Chintulov – the eminent Sliven citizen is an uncle of Garvalov’s grandmother from his mother’s side. The ambassador Ivan Garvalov dedicated 49 years from his life to the Bulgarian diplomacy, as he worked in the UNO more than 30 years. He worked as a diplomat in India, Burma, Indonesia and Egypt. He worked two mandates in the standing committee of Bulgaria in UNO for human rights. He is a member of the deliberate committee of the Council of Europe for the package convention for the national minorities in Strasbourg. He was an independent expert at the Committee of UNO and he has its own achievements for the abolishment of the racial discrimination. After his return back to Bulgaria Mr. Garvalov he held many high posts in the Ministry of foreign affairs and also first vice-minister until 1992.

Mr. Garvalov was awarded a golden medal from the Ministry of foreign affairs for his diplomatic activity of many years and also an honorary medal for his achievements on occasion of 60 years from the foundation of UNO and 50 years Bulgarian participation in UNO.

Ivan Garvalov’s book was presented by its editor Petar Gornenski /a president of Gorpress publishing house/.

The author answered the numerous questions, concerning not only his diplomatic activity of many years, but also the nowadays and future Bulgarian foreign political priorities.

Mrs. Zornitza Alexandrova-a deputy-mayor of Sliven Municipality attended the meeting. She ordered ambassador Garvalov an honorary diploma on behalf of the Sliven Municipality’s administration for his effective diplomatic activity of many years.
