The book by Ph.D. in history Ivan Stoyanov "New perspectives on Vasil Levski’s ideological conceptions and revolutionary activities" was presented in "Sava Dobroplodni"Regional Library

 

 The new book by Ph.D. in history Ivan Stoyanov „New perspectives on Vasil Levski’s ideological conceptions and revolutionary activities” was presented on June 18th in "Sava Dobroplodni" Regional Library and the audience showed great interest to the book. Ivan Slavov - Deputy Mayor of Sliven, as well as historians, linguists, writers, librarians and students of Humanitarian High School "Damyan Damyanov" – Sliven attended the presentation.

The meeting was opened with a review, written by prof. Plamen Mitev, about the book. It stated that "unlike many other researchers of the life and activity of Vasil Levski, Professor Stoyanov without glorification, without hyperboling and fabricating the activity of the Apostole, nor serving the modern today new ideological symbols about our political revival,  on the contrary, knowing that he may be accused of various sins to the memory of Deacon, he deals with the difficult task to distinguish truth from fiction, and relying on the work done by generations scientists, dealing with Levski’s life and activity, he overcomes some taboos or breaks some of the stereotypes of thinking".

Prof. Stoyanov talked nearly an hour, fascinating and interesting about the main points, raised in his monograph. He also talked about Levski being in Bucharest and its importance for his growth as an ideologist of the Bulgarian national revolution. Exactly the "University of Bucharest," as aptly defined by Prof. Stoyanov, is the time when the Apostle has been immersed in the revolutionary environment of the Romanian capital, and it occupied a very important place in his ideological evolution and this was revealed and justified by serious and undisputable arguments. Valuable and important for the personal development of Levski observations also according to the highlighting loans in ideological heritage of the Apostle of European political thought for his time were presented. The author especially stressed on the theme of revolutionary terror, which has gradually become a practice of the Internal Revolutionary Organization in 1871-1872, as one of the initial causes for the crisis in the committee matters and moral, political and psychological effects from it. Prof. Stoyanov presented his different, from many years already imposed, positions on the role of Dimitar Obshti, for the robbery of the Turkish mail in Arabakonak, about the behavior of Levski in front of the court, etc.

Professor Ivan Stoyanov also talked about number of false and fabricated theses and allegations imposed through the years, related to the life and activity of Vasil Levski presented in his study. Without betraying his academic approach, with the power of facts and authentic documentary sources, based on a critical understanding of the work done by the Bulgarian historiography, he traced how myths about Levski were born; he refuted some of the established clichés in time in the estimates, convincingly counterfeited also against the overexposure of false or unverifiable claims.

At the end of the meeting Prof. Stoyanov answered many questions of people from the audience. Many historians who discussed the theme on the meeting supported these author's claims. Matters about contacts between Levski and Sliven figures were mentioned too.

The director of "Sava Dobroplodni" Regional Library Rosica Petrova greeted the author for his courage to write the book "New perspectives on Vasil Levski’s ideological conceptions and revolutionary activities", which offers readers a fascinating and interesting journey through the unlit yet labyrinths of our own history, a glimpse beyond the myths and legends, beyond the "use" of Deacon for personal gain or for political purposes. In this book, according to Rositsa Petrova, readers will find a less known, but no less great Apostle of Bulgarian freedom.
