"SAVA DOBROPLODNI" REGIONAL LIBRARY ORGANIZED PRESENTATION OF IVAN RUSEV’S BOOK “COMMERCIAL MODERNITY OF BULGARIAN REVIVAL" ON OCTOBER 16th, 2015

The premiere of Prof. Ivan Rusev’s book "Commerce modernity of Bulgarian revival as a culture and practice" was held at the Chamber Hall of the Drama Theater "Stefan Kirov" on October 16, 2015, at 6:30 pm. The event was organized by "Sava Dobroplodni" Regional Library - Sliven and it is the first event of the program dedicated to the celebration of the day of Sliven - St. Demitar’s day. The book was presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Martin Ivanov.

 

Ivan Rusev has a master degree in history in Veliko Tarnovo University "St. Cyril and Methodius", PhD in history at the Institute of History at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences / 1996 /, Doctor of Historical Sciences at the Institute of History at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences / 2012 /.

He began his career as a historian as a curator at the Regional History Museum - Sliven, where he worked from 1989 to 1998. From 1997 to 2009 he read lectures / assistant professor, associate professor / at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar". Since 2009 he has been a lecturer / senior lecturer and now professor / at The University of Economics in Varna.

He wrote over 150 scientific articles and studies published in Bulgarian, French, English and German languages ​​in Bulgarian and foreign scientific books and periodicals; 13 textbooks for universities, 8 monographs, including: "Companies and manufactures in Sliven and Kotel regions during the Renaissance" / 1996 /, "All to be known ... - inscriptions and ecclesiastical texts as sources for Renaissance History" / 1999/; "The birth of the modern commercial and accounting education - European, Balkan and Bulgarian revival" / 2008 /; "Sliven Aton monastery community and the region in the XII –XVII century" / 2011 /; "History of Varna /from the XV century to 1878/"/ 2012  /, etc.

He is a winner of the awards: "Dr. Ivan Seliminski" of Slivenmunicipality - for his contribution to the history of the region / 1999 /, Prize of the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria for the best young scientist in the field of humanities / 1999 /, award "Varna" of Varna Municipality for his contribution to social sciences / 2014 /.

 

Martin Ivanov has a master degree in history at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski ", Master of Law from Southwestern University "Neophyte Rilski" and a doctor degree at the Institute of History at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. From 2000 he worked at the Institute of History at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and since 2008 - an associate professor there. He teaches economic history at Sofia University and the Higher School of Insurance and Finance.

He wrote over 150 scientific publications and seven monographs on economic and social policy of Bulgaria from the 70s of the nineteenth century until today.
        From 2011 to 2013 he was a chairman of the State Agency "Archives". From October 15, 2013, by decree of the President of Republic of Bulgaria, he was appointed Secretary to the President for culture, education and national identity. From August 6th to November 7th, 2014 he was a Minister of Culture in the caretaker government appointed by the President of Republic of Bulgaria Rosen Plevneliev.

 

The monograph "The commercial modernity of Bulgarian Revival" contains the results of research work of Ivan Rusev, which lasted more than twenty years on problems related to the conception and development of modern business in Bulgarian society during the Renaissance - the emergence and spread of commercial and academic literature, "the appearance" of the modern commercial and accounting education, widespread corporate forms of trade, the increased interest in modern commercial and legal matters, the emergence of advertising, trademarks, insurance, etc.  The book specially discusses the activities of trade and joint stock companies in Sliven, Kotel, the villages Zheravna, Ichera, Gradets, Katunishte, Medven, Ticha - one of the most economically developed villages on the Bulgarian lands during the Renaissance. The sources written at the end of the book /commercial contracts, business correspondence, accounting ledgers, balance sheets, etc. /, most of which are published for the first time, visualized the documentary base of the study.
