The new
literary season at "Sava Dobroplodni" Regional Library was opened on January

"The Case "Vanga".

the Bulgarian National Radio, in "Boyana" movie studio.
He
was a vice editor-in-chief of "Plamak" magazine and the first editor of the
Bulgarian edition of the prestigious French newspaper "Le Mond Diplomatique".
He is the author of fifteen books of fiction - short stories, novels, essays
and many radio plays.
Four TV movies based on his scenarios were shot. He translated from French
works of Patrick Modiano, Francoise Sagan, Georges - Olivier Châteaureynaud,
etc. His books were published in France, Germany, Italy, Albania, Serbia,
Romania, South Korea and Macedonia. He is a founder and a Chairman of the
International Foundation "Balkanica". He has won the awards - Vazov Prize
for Literature, European Prize for poetic prose, as well as the award "Paris
- Europe", awarded to him in 2005 by the municipality of Paris for his
contribution to the culture of the United Europe.
The
writer Nikolay Stoyanov is a relative of the prophet from Petrich and his
book has collected memories of his childhood and stories that had passed
from generation to generation in his family. Besides telling stories about
Vanga, the author tells a lot about the times in which she lived, about
significant personalities and events that marked those years, about her
relationship with authorities and secret services, about the scientific
experiments that were held with the prophetess, although they are denied
today, about other phenomena around her, as well as about the sessions that
she has undertaken to contact the afterlife. Unlike most publications in
Bulgaria dedicated to Vanga directed more towards the sensational
journalistic flair, the book of Nikolay Stoyanov is primarily a personal
story about her, seen through the writer's eyes.
The stories
in "The case "Vanga" are not just memories. The writer examines Vanga not
only as a phenomenon and a person, but as a true "case", about which,
although much known, there are still more unknown facts: "Vanga was and
still is a world event. She was an exception from the rules. She was born to
help and protect us from our imperfections", says Nikolay Stoyanov. He
seeks explanations for the dual life of Vanga, her daily and painful
incarnations from reality into the unknown world, her complex relationships
with the authorities and the secret services, the vast loneliness and pain
of the one who helped others, but who could not help herself.
The literary
critic Dimitar Bechev took part in the book presentation. |
