FIRST STEPS IN PROGRAMMING WITH THE FINCH

From 15 to 23rd of October 2016, in the EU countries, for the fourth consecutive year European Code Week was held. It aims to raise public interest in programming, to encourage European citizens of different ages to demystify digital skills and learn more about programming and computational thinking - to acquire skills for open collaboration, creativity and problem solving.

"Sava Dobroplodni" Regional library - Sliven and the regional libraries in 9 Bulgarian cities /Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Plovdiv, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Targovishte and Razgrad / took part in the initiatives organized during the European Code Week with a series of free workshops, organized in collaboration with the US Embassy in Bulgaria and the "Global libraries Bulgaria" Foundation and aimed professionals in libraries to help many children make their first steps in programming in an interesting and funny way.

The seminars included presentations about the history of programming and programming languages and presented opportunities for programming with the Finch robot. Children learnt how to code with the programming language Snap! that managed the robot. Snap! makes it easy to learn the principles of visual programming by working with images, sounds and painting, gives freedom for modeling of various objects from the environment thereby enriching the culture of children and develop creative thinking and communication skills.

The specialists of "Sava Dobroplodni" regional library organized seminars on the following schedule:

"Sava Dobroplodni" Regional library – 17th and 18th of October 2016.
