	1986
February-March	Regional department “Libraries” organized an inquiry of readers and their needs in community centers’ libraries in Sliven region.
June 10	The library held a seminar “Libraries and the patriotic education of working people and youth” with the participation of the lecturers TsvetankaPancheva, Ivan Kolev etc.
July	“Petar Dimitrov -Rudar” bibliography was published. A compiler: Rositsa Petrova.
July-September	The building of the children’s department was repaired. Modern equipment for arranging exhibitions was worked up.
September 10	A seminar for librarians from Sliven and Yambol regions on topic: “The libraries-modern informative centers and bibliography in assistance of science, education and industry” with the participation of Elena Furnadjieva-a lecturer from “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” National Library was held in the Regional library.
October 17	A meeting with the writer Georgi Velichkov was organized.
November	A discussion of Vasil Gavrilov’s book “Tired men” was organized. The book was presented by Nikola Radev - a director of “Profizdat” Publishing house.
	1987
	The library got the statute of a Universal scientific library.
March	The roof of the building of the children’s department was repaired.
March 13	The library held a regional seminar on topic: „150 years since Vasil Levski’s birth and the libraries’ work”.
June 17	A meeting was organized with the writer Slav Hristov Karaslavov in cooperation with the Cultural Figures Club in the library.
June 22	A meeting with the writer Georgi Velichkov was organized. His book “Midsummer day” was discussed.
December 1	The writer Petar Dimitrov-Rudar donated his personal book collection to “Georgi Kirkov” Regional Library.

March 19	A discussion of Krasin Krastev’s short novel “Quick sands” was organized in cooperation with the House of literature with the participation of Sabina Beliaeva.
April 6	The library presents the book of Petar Siarov “To the end of classes” with the participation of Nikolai Zahariev.
May	„Friends of rock music” club started to function at the “Arts” department.
May 30	A regional seminar on topic: “Libraries’ work with periodicals” was held.
May	The organizing committee for celebrating 100 anniversary of “Pejo Yavorov” Library of Bourgas awarded “Georgi Kirkov” Unicversal Scientific Library-Sliven a Jubilee diploma for its achievements in approving libraries as active centers of cultural life of Bourgas.
September	The director of the library Ivan Bakalov and Nadejda Lateva visited the Regional Library of Ternopol /Ukraine/ in occasion of its 50 anniversary.
October	A meeting of the head librarians of Bourgas region on topic: “Motivation of library specialists” was held in the library with the participation of the research worker Alexander Kazandjiev /”St. St. Cyril and Methodius” National Library/.
	1989
January	Catalogue of titles of fiction was worked up.
April	Annotated bibliographical list „Publications about Sofronii Vrachanski in periodicals of Sliven region”, compiled by Rositsa Petrova was included in the symposium “Once to be the beginning” – published by “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” National Library.
June 10	A regional seminar of librarians from the community centers libraries on the matters of putting into operation the new “Tables” and re-classification of the funds and catalogues.
June	“Sofronii Vrachanski” bibliography was published. It was a part of the “Eminent writers of the Bulgarian national revival of Sliven region” series. A compiler: Rositsa Petrova.
September 2-6	A five days course for newly appointed librarians of Sliven region was held in the reading-rooms of the library.
September	A delegation from the Regional library of Ternopol /Ukraine/ was on a five days visit in “Georgi Kirkov” Universal Scientific Library.
November	Ten librarians from “Georgi Kirkov” Universal Scientific Library were on a one week business visit in the Regional library of Ternopol/ the twin town of Sliven/, Ukraine.

April	A meeting with the poetess Petya Jordanova was organized in the children’s department.
May	A symposium of methodical and bibliographical publications “Go, revived nation”.
June	“Neofit Bozveli” bibliography was published. It was a part of the “Eminent writers of the Bulgarian national revival of Sliven region” series. A compiler: Rositsa Petrova.
September	The library stopped serving readers in its central building. A basic repair of the building started. The staff worked on re-classification of the book fund.
October	The “Dr. Simeon Tabakov” bibliography was published by the financial help of „Simeon Tabakov” foundation-Sliven. A compiler: Rositsa Petrova.
	1991
January-December	Work on the re-classification of the fund continued. All catalogues were renovated. Besides the repair of the library’s building the library still served its readers on their preliminary order for books.
January	A classified and an alphabetical catalogue of audio-cassettes were worked up.
May	“Sava Dobroplodni” bio-bibliography was published. It was a part of the “Eminent writers of the Bulgarian national revival of Sliven region” series. A compiler: Rositsa Petrova.
December 17 December 20	The director Ivan Bakalov was dismissed. Nadejda Lateva acted temporally as a directress of the library.

February 14	The children’s department with all its 50 000 books and equipment burnt entirely because of the carelessness of workers who repaired the roof of the building.
April 9	Rositsa Petrova was appointed to the post of a directress of the library by a competition for that occupation.
April-May	New library regulations, a new library structure, new office profiles, a price-list for library’s services were approved.
April	A bank account for donations was opened for re-establishment of children’s department of the library. First book donation from the libraries of Targovishte, Gabrovo, Yambol and many Sliven citizens and children were granted.
May	“Open society” foundation- Sofia donated a copying machine “Xerox” and 200 books of business, political science and management in English to the library.
May 25	The library was inaugurated after two years reconstruction. An exhibition of Stanimir Vachev and Jordan Parushev was exposed. The inauguration and the party were sponsored by фирма “Boomerang-press” company, “Jajda” Publishing house, Christo Nedev, Deian Atanasov etc.
May 30	A hand-book for candidate-students “How to work on problems?” was published. It was sponsored by “Boomerang-press” Publishing house – Sliven as the incomes from its selling were used for buying books for children and re-establishment of children’s department.
June 1	Advertising strategy for popularizing library’s activities and services was approved. Articles advertising library’s services were published in the local press.
June	Forty-five days course for librarians from community centers and school libraries from Sliven, Yambol and Bourgas regions on a program approved by the Ministry of culture was organized.
June	A project for automation of basic library and bibliographical processes was worked up.
June 22	By Sliven Municipal council’s decree the library got the name of Sava Dobroplodni.
June 23	“News” newspaper published the column “Sliven Universal library presents new books”.
July 10	The 45-dasy course for librarians from Sliven, Yambol and Bourgas regions ended after written and oral exams were held. Results of the exams were very good. The inquiry of the students showed that they obtained the basic knowledge which they need in their daily work in the library.
September 30	An exhibition “Chinese books and drawings in “Go Hua” style” was organized by the China Embassy in Sofia and “ Friends of China” club – Sliven on occasion of the National holiday of China.
September	Three modules of the ISIS program/ for DOS/ were bought for the implementation of the project for automation of the basic library bibliographical processes.
October	The library bought 3 computers /АТ 386/ and the first stage of the project for automation of the basic library bibliographical processes started.
October	The first computer training course for librarians was held.
October	“St. Kliment Ohridski” University Publishing house donated more than 1000 books in all fields of science to the library.
November	The case for the library’s building restitution went to law.
December	By Sliven Mayor’s order № RD-15-2088/dated 1.12.1992 a municipal building on “Alexander Stamboliiski” Street was placed on children’s library’s disposal.

January	An electronic catalogue of books was worked up.
January	A classified and an alphabetical catalogue of CDs were worked up.
February	The library in cooperation with “Dobri Jeliazkov” vocational school at textile - Sliven published the bibliography “Nikola Shishedjiev”. A compiler: Galia Cholakova.
February 9	“Open society” foundation –Sofia donated to the library 68 books in English on current topics of economics and informational services.
February 23	“Open society” foundation –Sofia donated 70 books in English to the library. The book collection was exposed in the library’s foyer by the will of the donor. An exhibition of Sliven writers Jordan Parushev and Petar Kayrakov was exposed in the library.
February	A bookstall for selling donated books which did not suit library’s profile was opened.
March 19	Sliven court of law disallowed the claim of the triple examination on the case for library’s building restitution.
March 7	“Open society” foundation –Sofia donated 2 computers to the library which helped the working up of “Library” automated system. There were already 5 automated modules: ”Acquisition”, ” Public access services”, ”Periodicals”, ”Regional studies” and “Electronic catalogues”.
May 14	The French Embassy in Sofia donated 67 children’s books in French- well illustrated fiction and cognitional readings- to the library.
May 20	An exhibition of photos “Libraries’ history” placed at library’s disposal by the French Embassy in Sofia was exposed in library’s foyer.
June	“Slivensko delo” newspaper published a column “ For you candidate-students” written by “Sava Dobroplodni” Universal Scientific Library.
June	The private book collection of the writer Konstantin Konstantinov was donated to the library.
July	A device for reading microfilms and micro-cards was bought for the needs of “Regional studies” department. A CD player was bought for “Arts” department.
August	“Open society” foundation –Sofia donated to the library 50 books in English of business, political science and microeconomics from famous American authors.
August	“Sabre” foundation donated many books of science literature to the library through the Center for the study of democracy and “Open society” foundation –Sofia.
October	“Sirak Skitnik” bibliography dedicated to the110 anniversary of the birth of famous Sliven painter, poet, theatre and literature critic Panayot Hristov known with his pseudonym Sirak Skitnik was published. Compilers: Joanna Dimitrova, Galia Cholakova, Rositsa Petrova-Vasileva. The bibliography was sponsored by the State forestry–Sliven.
November	The National Academic Foundation donated 702 books in English to the library. The donation was granted by the International book bank of the United States and there were book of all fields of science and culture.
December	The library received the first diskettes series 5 and 6 of the National bibliography from “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” National Library.

January	An automated readers’ registration started.
February	More than 1000 valuable books and albums were donated to “Arts” department of the library because of closure of the library at the Art Gallery in Sliven.
March	“Hristo Botev” Publishing house donated to the library 1616 books in the field of Bulgarian and foreign translated literature, history, political sciences and biographies of eminent persons.
March 17	The new children’s department located on the first floor of the former Musical school in the library’s yard was inaugurated. Its book fund numbered more than 15 000 books, supplied by donations by publishing houses, cultural-informative centers, companies, libraries and citizens. Repair and equipment of the department were sponsored by 22 state and private companies and banks, amongst which were: ”State forestry” -Sliven, „Decotex-carpet”, „Fructo”, „Spectar”, „Serdica”, „Dynamo Ltd.”, ”Blue Stones” factory, фирма „Satiricon” company, „Bojura” company, „Sotirov” company, „Mebellux” etc., also by the Sliven branches of Balkanbank, Teximbank, State Savings Bank, Mineralbank. The outer design of the new building suited the design of the main building and it was designed by architect Metodi Totev. An exhibition of the little painter Christina Petkova was exposed in the library’s foyer.
April 25	An exhibition of books and philately was exposed in the library during the Week of Argentina in Sliven on occasion of the National holiday of Argentina-May 25. The ambassador of Argentina in Bulgaria Mrs. Nelly Freiry Penabad and Mrs. Maria sol Dorini de Nuegas – culture attaché in the Embassy of Argentina attended the event.
April	The library announced a competition for drawings for children “Favourite characters from children’s book” on the occasion of the Day of Slavic literature –May 24.
May 23	An exhibition “Old-printed books of “Sava Dobroplodni” Universal Scientific Library’s fund” was exposed in the library’s foyer. The books dated from 1806-1877. Results from the “Favourite characters from children’s book” competition were announced. Sponsors „Spectar Ltd.”, „Agra” company, State forestry–Sliven and State Saving Bank and “Eagle” insurance company supplied the prizes for the children-winners in the competition.
June 1	The library organized “The longest drawing” event with the participation of students from several Sliven schools.
June	Michael Brenan from the American peace corps donated 31 books in English – textbooks of economics, marketing, business management and business planning.
September	Bulgarian Writers’ Union and “Sava Dobroplodni” Universal Scientific Library published the bibliography “Zaharii Stoyanov”. Compilers: Rositsa Petrova and the writer Stefan Chirpanliev.
October	The Supreme court ruled the case between Sliven municipality and persons, pretending to be owners /by the Law for restitution/ of a part the estate in which the building of the Library was located, after a control verification, in the favour of the Sliven municipality.
October	An exhibition of books with autographs of writers who visited Sliven throughout 40 year was exposed in the library’s foyer.
October	A unique bio-bibliography “Sliven bishops” was published by the financial support of: „Bojura Ltd.”, ”Izkoustvo”company, Buildings Ltd.”, „Municipal Services Ltd.”, „State forestry” - Sliven. Compilers: Galia Cholakova, Katia Siveva, Joanna Dimitrova, Rositsa Petrova.
October	An exhibition of children’s drawings in occasion of the feast of the town – Saint Dimitar’s day and the 1^st of November – the Day of leaders of the Bulgarian National Revival on theme: “My world” was exposed in the library.
November	A project of the library „A reference Publishing system-Library” was approved.
November	By decree 1367 „About obligatory depositing of books and other issues” and Order RD-09-537/ dated 18 October 1994 of the Minister of culture concerning updating the list of free deposit from November the library became a depository library of the scientific –popular, school and children’s literature.

February 24	First meeting of the Initiative committee for celebrating the 40 anniversary of the library and 175 years since Sava Dobroplodni’s birth was organized. Chairman of the Committee was Mr. Atanas Jelezchev – a vice-chairman of the National assembly. The sculptor Nikolai Sultanov made a bas-relief of Sava Dobroplodni which was put on the library’s facade.
February 28	The library was a co-organizer of the celebration dedicated to 125 of the establishment of the Bulgarian exarchy.
April 18	A meeting was organized with the writer Stefan Chirpanliev in children’s department and his latest books for children “The boy who can do everything” and „The punished snail” were presented.
May 17 – 18	40th anniversary of the library and 175 years of Sava Dobroplodni’s birth were celebrated. The program of the event included: A conference dedicated to 175 years of the birth of Sava Dobroplodni-the eminent writer of the Bulgarian national revival, with director of studies professor Dr. Vera Bojcheva /Sofia University/; A concert of Ginka Gichkova and Savka Shopova; Inauguration of Dobroplodni’s bas-relief; Laying of wreaths on Hadji Dimitar’s monument; An exhibition “40 years “Sava Dobroplodni” Universal Scientific Library; A concert. Special guests of the even were: Professor Georgi Kostov –a minister of culture, Georgi Konstantinov - a vice minister of culture, Atanas Jelezchev – a vice-chairman of the National assembly etc. A delegation of the Regional library of Ternopol /Ukraine/ attended the jubilee.
May 18	Porfessor Georgi Kostov- the minister of culture inaugurated Sava Dobroplodni’s bas-relief on the library’s facade.
May 18	Sliven municipality donated to the library a printer for $400 on occasion of library’s 40th anniversary.
May 18	Ann Wiseman from the British council-Sofia donated audiocassettes and methodical handbooks for English studying to the library.
July	Bio-bibliography “Sava Philaretov” a part of the series “Eminent writer of the Bulgarian national revival from Sliven region” was published. Compilers: Galia Cholakova, Katia Siveva, Joanna Dimitrova.
July	British council-Sofia donated 300 books in English and audiocassettes to the library.
July	Two computers and a printer were bought for implementing the project for automation of basic library’s bibliographical processes.
September	“D.A.Tsenov” Economic academy- Svishtov donated more than 2000 books in the field of economics, accountancy and economic management.
October 31	A literature night dedicated to 170 years since Sava Philaretov’s birth was organized in the library in cooperation with the Cultural Figures Club. The bib-bibliography published by “Regional studies” department was presented.
November 21	Readings dedicated to the writer Konstantin Konstantinov were read on a meetingin the library which was organized in cooperation with the Cultural Figures Club.
November 28	Mr. David Stokes, an attaché in the Embassy of Great Britain in Bulgarian and a director of the British Council opened a centre, helping English learning process in the library. The Centre was opened by the help of “13 centuries Bulgaria” fund and “Open society” club in Sliven. Fiction and periodicals were supplied by the help of British Council, “Open society” foundation and the Peace corps. Ivan Bogorov – a vice-minister of the Ministry of culture, An Wiseman – British council, Yanko Yankov – a mayor of Sliven municipality, Vladimir Tsonev –a chairman of Municipal council-Sliven etc. attended the inauguration of the centre.
