Kalina Koseva Kalina Koseva was born in the town of Nova Zagora in1928. She graduated a high school in her home-town and State Institute for library sciences – Sofia in 1955. She was appointed to the post of a manager of the newly established state library in Sliven by the Committee of culture. She was a directress of the library from June 1956 to August 1966. Those were the hardest times in the development of the library – the period of its establishment as a main library, informational and methodical centre in Sliven region. |

Petar Dobrev Petar Dobrev was born on November 16th, 1927. He graduated “Dobri Chintulov” High school and Sofia University /Bulgarian philology/ and specialized later library sciences and journalism. He worked as a teacher, as a regional scholastic inspector, as an editor and a secretary in chief in “Slivensko delo” newspaper and as a correspondent of many newspapers and magazines. He was a director of the library from August 1966 to September 1973. He reconstructs the library, established new departments and develop new activities. The library became one of the best libraries in the country at that time.

Stefan Georgiev Stefan Georgiev was born on September 11th, 1940. He graduated “St Kliment Ohridski” University- Sofia in 1965 / History; Library sciences-1975/. He was a director of the library from November 1973 to October 1977. The most significant fact in that period was the establishment of a new children’s department in the yard of the “Vasil Levski” Elementary school.

Ivanka Mihailova Ivanka Mihailova was born on February 10th, 1936. She graduated a high school in her home-town, the State library institute in Sofia /1957/ and “St Kliment Ohridski” University- Sofia / Geography/. She established the “Books about the Sliven region” department of the library and she also compiled many bibliographies. She was a directress of the library from October 1977 to February 1978.

Koljo Komitov /April 12, 1936 – July 10, 2005/ He graduated Institute for teachers in Bourgas and “St. Kilment Ohridski” University – Sofia / Spanish philology/. He was a director of the library from February 1978 to October 1979. In that period the library the library was connected to the central heating system of the town. |

Vala Neikova /February 23, 1932 – May 3, 1998/ She graduated a high school in Karnobat and the State Library Institute – Sofia /Library sciences and bibliography/. Vala Neikova is one of the founders of the Regional library. She was a methodologist of many years, who worked for improving activities of the libraries of the region. She acted as a directress of the library from September 1979 to July 1981. Regional department “Libraries” was established in that period and “Arts” department and “Arts” reading-room. |

Ivan Bakalov /September 9, 1938– June 6, 2004/ Ivan Bakalov graduated a high school and an Institute for teachers in Bourgas and “St. Kilment Ohridski” University – Sofia / Bulgarian philology/. He was a director of the library from July 24th, 1981 to December 1991. At that time, in 1981, the library celebrated its 25 anniversary. In that period the library got in touch with the Regional library of Ternopol /Ukraine/. Valuable bibliographies were published. Reconstruction of the library’s building started.

Nadejda Lateva /August 25, 1938 – May 6, 2002/ Nadejda Lateva graduated the State Library Institute – Sofia / Library sciences and bibliography/ and “St. Kilment Ohridski” University – Sofia / Bulgarian philology/. She compiled many bibliographies and brochures. She was a head of the methodological department of the library and worked for the development of the regional library net. She acted as a directress from December 20th, 1991 to April 9th, 1992.

Rositsa Petrova - Vasileva
She has been working in the library since 1985 in “Inquiry and informational” department and in “Books about the region” department. She wrote some valuable bibliographies from the series “Eminent writers of the Bulgarian national revival from Sliven region” and other medleys. She was appointed on the post of a director of the library on April 9, 1992 as she won a competition for that post. Since then she works hardly for approving the library as a modern culture and informational centre with a European image. She made efforts for saving the library’s building from restitution by the help of good lawyers and consultants and she won the case. She organized the reconstruction of the ex musical school by the help of sponsors and established a new children’s department in 1992. She got in touch with the British council – Sofia and a centre, helping English learning process was opened in 1995, which later became a Centre for books in foreign languages. The library became a fast developing informational centre and it became a regional library for Sliven and Yambol regions in 2000. She worked up more than 20 projects of donating organizations, which helped the supplying of the library with modern technical equipment; implemented a project for automation of the main library processes, many books have been bought and many valuable issues, medleys and symposiums have been printed. The library keeps in touch with the Regional library of Gera /Germany/, the Town library of Pecs /Hungary, the town libraries of Dunajska sreda /Slovakia/ and Kuopio /Finland/, the International children’s festival „Zmejeve dechje igre”/Novi sad, Serbia and Monte Negro/, the Andersen festival /Sestri Levante, Italy/, the International festival „Bibliobraz”/Moscow, Russia/, the European Agency for Development /Genoa, Italy/, Culture foundation „Aida” /Verona, Italy/ etc. The library started working up projects, sponsored by the European Commission. The directress worked up projects for establishing a regional Eurodesk centre in the library and including the library in a national informational network for disseminating information about the EU and implementing a project on the communication strategy of Bulgarian government for joining of Bulgaria to the EU. She was the initiator of the National Children’s Books Festival, which take place every year and many Bulgarians and foreign guests took part in its program. The library’s activities have a main part in the cultural life of the town and the region recently. It was an idea of the directress that the library first from all the institutions of its kind started to operate on the system of „vicarious budgets”. Her efforts in the last two years were directed to implementing the project, sponsored by the Economic Investment Fund for building another library’s building, which will allow carrying out new activities and services. |
