NINE LIBRARIES
FROM SLIVEN REGION HAVE BEEN APPROVED TO TAKE PART IN THE SECOND PHASE (Stage
2010) OF „GLOB@L LIBRARIES - BULGARIA” PROGRAM
The
final list of libraries selected for taking part in the second phase of Glob@l
Libraries – Bulgaria program - Stage 2010 was officially proclaimed on
September 21, 2010 by the Project Managerial board, including
representatives of the key partners: Ministry of Culture, United Nations
Development Programme (UNDP), National Association of Municipalities in
Bulgaria, Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology
and BLIA. Nine libraries have been approved for the second stage of the
program from Sliven region: from Sliven Municipality - libraries in the
community centers in Blatets village, Mechkarevo village, Gavrailovo village
and Novachevo village; from Nova Zagora Municipality - libraries in the
community centers in Lyubenova mahala village, Sabrano village and Elenovo
village; in the Municipality of Kotel - the library in the community centre
in Ticha village; in Tvarditsa Municipality - the library in the community
centre in Orizari village.

On
November 5, 2009 officially was announced the final list of libraries that
are shortlisted for including in first phaseof the program Glob @l libraries
- Bulgaria. Fifteen libraries have been approved: from Municipality of
Sliven – ‘Sava Dobroplodni’ Regional Library - training base on the program,
the library of Zora community center and the libraries at the community
centres in the town of Kermen, village of Bjala, Krushare village and Staro
selo village; from municipality of Nova Zagora - the library in "D.P. Sivkov"
community centre /Nova Zagora/ and the libraries at the community centers in
Banya village, and Asenovets village; from Kotel Municipality - Public
Library P. Mateev - Kotel, and the libraries at the community centers in
Streltsi village and Kipilovo village; from Tvarditsa Municipality – the
libraries at the community centers in the town ofTvarditsa - Kozarevo
quarter, the town of Shivachevo and Sborishte village.

Guided by the belief
that access to the Internet changed the lives of good people, Foundation
Bill & Melinda Gates creates the "Global Libraries" to help people in many
countries to gain access to computers, Internet access and training. Program
is planned Global Libraries - Bulgaria "to continue to 4.5 years. Key
partners: Ministry of Culture, the National Association of Municipalities,
informatsionnna Bulgarian Library Association, the State Agency for
Information Technologies and Communications, and United Nations Development.
To present the program "Global Libraries - Bulgaria in
Sliven were Tzerovska
Helena, head of communications and advocacy and Ilia Popov, administrative
program manager. Presentation attended by the governor and Christina
Cholakova, Deputy Mayor Joy Culture Kostova. The main objective of the
program will be a maximum number of Bulgarian citizens to have easy and free
access to information and services online through the network of Bulgarian
public libraries. It is planned to be provided ICT equipment and Internet
access for visitors to the 900 public libraries in cities and towns and
villages. By mobilizing additional funds, the program will
seek to cover the
700 libraries that meet the criteria for inclusion. Nearly 3 000 librarians
will be trained in computer skills, new services and library management.
Techniques are expected to arrive the first stage in early 2010 to mid 2011,
all libraries will be approved equipment. Regional Coordinator for the
Sliven region is Rosica Petrova, Director of the Regional Library Sava
Dobroplodni.
